Reconciliation

Advancing Truth and Reconciliation is a responsibility we all share

We acknowledge with respect that we live, work and play on the unceded territory of the ləkʷəŋən People. We seek to understand the truth of our shared history and present, to listen and learn with humility, to care for the land, and to build a respectful and more just future together with the Songhees and Esquimalt peoples.

The Community Association of Oak Bay is a founding member of ReconciliACTION Oak Bay, a network of Oak Bay-based organizations dedicated to forging community to community relationships with the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and urban Indigenous people more generally, and to taking concrete action to advance Truth and Reconciliation in our community.

The ReconciliACTION Oak Bay Network supports public engagement and action around Truth-Telling and Reconciliation. It seeks, through collaboration and partnership, to create local momentum on the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

It supports and encourages Oak Bay Council to fulfill its commitments to explore “more meaningful and collaborative ongoing working relationships with the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations,” “advance local initiatives and projects that achieve the goals and principles of Reconciliation," and “adopt and implement” the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
